The position, restated

A knowledge base is an engineered, owned, governed asset with multiple representations, explicit context, a lifecycle, and a contract. It is not an index. The engineering discipline that builds it — knowledge base engineering — is the one most organizations are missing, and it is the one that determines whether the AI investments layered on top of it compound or decay. Build the pattern once, on a shared platform. Let the domains own the content. Measure it continuously. That is the whole recipe, and the hard part is deciding to follow it.
